Fika uses local GeoJSON path data, browser geolocation, a local path graph and client-side A* routing to produce campus walking routes and maneuvers. The graph connects Fika and the KU Campus Navigation research unit to Geospatial Technology.

A map is not the same as a spatial system. Geospatial output can be incomplete or stale, and a route calculation does not by itself authorize movement or guarantee that the environment has not changed.
