05 / FIKA CAMPUS NAVIGATION AND KU RESEARCH

Actual work gives the capability a boundary.

Fika uses local GeoJSON path data, browser geolocation, a local path graph and client-side A* routing to produce campus walking routes and maneuvers. The graph connects Fika and the KU Campus Navigation research unit to Geospatial Technology.

A map is not the same as a spatial system. Geospatial output can be incomplete or stale, and a route calculation does not by itself authorize movement or guarantee that the environment has not changed.

Geospatial technology can provide context to Edge Computing where local route calculation matters, and can support business or research systems that need to reason about fields, campuses, routes or exposure.
